The tragic escape of Henry VII.

Exciting guesswork in the royal palace

The story

The tragic escape of Henry VII.

The "Staufer Mystery" around the royal palace and the medieval town of Bad Wimpfen takes you to many historical locations in the town and sheds light on both the people and circumstances of the Staufers. The dispute between Emperor Frederick II and his son King Henry (VII) is at the centre of this outdoor escape game. Get to know the city through play and spend time puzzling over its most beautiful places

The 2nd July of 1235 will go down in history as the day that heralded the fall of the Hohenstaufen dynasty.
Emperor Frederick II, ruler of large parts of Central and Southern Europe, enters the town of Wimpfen with a magnificent retinue. He is accompanied not only by many warriors, but also by his personal bodyguard, consisting of feared Saracens and Ethiopians, as well as wagons full of food and all kinds of exotic animals from distant lands. However, his arrival in the city and the royal palace there does not bode well. His son Henry (VII) has committed treason and allied himself with the emperor's enemies. Now he must be brought to justice.

The emperor's retainer and close confidant, Hermann von Salza, has been entrusted with the task of confronting the king. However, he has fled from the imperial troops and gone into hiding in the city.
On the hunt for the traitor, Hermann finds out a lot about the king and doubts creep over him as to what the just punishment for Henry should be.

Will he be able to find Henry (VII)? And what will happen to him when the time comes? Not only the reputation of the Hohenstaufen dynasty, but also the future of the ruling family is at stake.

A special mystery tour through Bad Wimpfen's old town centre, over high towers with magnificent panoramic views and past beautiful squares!
